PREHISTORY, CASTLES, WINES AND FOOD! . Among the great artistic landscapes of south-western France, Aquitaine - which includes areas Périgord, Quercy, Limousin, Bordeaux and the Côte d'Argent on the Atlantic - is an extraordinary place. On a geographically manageable area can be found here products of all cultural periods combined. The oldest known human art - up to twenty thousand year old rock drawings, paintings and reliefs – stand in the famous prehistoric caves of the valley Vézères. From ancient times to tell many relics and ruins: Today's Bordeaux and Périgueux centers were the two most important cities founded by the Romans in the Gallic province of Aquitania. In a large number of churches and monasteries (Cahors, Périgueux, Souillac, Trémolat) the Middle Ages rises to the posterity. Despite of many wars periods of peace and cultural prosperity brought to this region of France a vast number of Renaissance palaces, medieval castles and manor houses from them. The varied, from rivers (Dordogne, Vézère, Lot, Isle, Dronne) dominated hilly landscape are these treasures, an enchanting setting. Finally, the near Atlantic coast gives opportunities for relaxing beach days. The Côte d'Argent extends between the estuary of Gironde and the Basque country, France's "Silver Coast" with its 200 km-long sandy beach and the highest sand dunes in Europe. The tradition of Bordeaux wines is to thank the Romans, they discovered two thousand years, the Bordelais as an ideal growing area. The prize-winning wines (Bordeaux, Médoc, Entre-Deux-Mers, Graves, St-Emilion, Bergerac, ...) added "au mieux" the culinary delights of the Périgord.
